I have watched more about this man, and I must say he may be the strangest man I have ever observed. He generally wanders around the streets of the neighborhood of Capital Hill playing a fantasy that he is on some sort of ill-defined quest that nears psychosis; he vocally declares that he abides by a strict code of chivalry, and he sees common pedestrians as allies or nemeses very quickly. Tara has become the object of his affection I imagine because in saving her she best affirmed his own fantasy. (On the other hand, Tara – if we are to be honest – is hardly the ideal damsel; she’s a struggling actress, self-absorbed and something of a harlot.) Another bizarre feature is his sheer eloquence and ability to quote classics, which implies good education – which he makes his fall to homelessness thoroughly strange.
Every attempt I have made to discover this man’s identity has been thwarted, except that I know that he once referred to himself as ‘Lance Chevalier’. This relatively mundane case of identity has now given me an obsessive giddiness I imagine is felt by a biologist or botanist who has just discovered a new species. I want to find more of who this madman is, and I have gone far in describing his features but nowhere in finding something that implies an identity. I am not solving a mystery so much as I am taking field notes; just yesterday he leaped into a shopping cart and cried out, “Onward Rothinate!” or something like that as he rode it like a child through the alley. He believes he is a knight-errant, trying to find a quest as if the world had quests popping up all over the place, yet for all his talk of ‘Faint heart never winning a fair lady!’ he seems to be a coward; I saw him screeching over a petty spider!
People have alerted me that his identity is Don Quixote, apparently a famous fictional character, and is connected to a particular twitter account. His bizarre behavior does validate the theory; it would appear that my benefactor is bringing me closer to these figures for some reason unknown to me… strangely I seem to recognize the name, if I am not mistaken, from some message of fan mail I got ages ago.
I haven’t spoken to Tara in a while, but somebody has informed me of a sinister message which was left on her blog. Whether or not this message is related to our Don remains to be seen. I will have to ask her if something more worrisome than a senile fool is bothering her…
Sherlock Holmes
Good to hear from you Mr. Holmes. Is there any possibility that you could show us this fan mail you received? We can’t discount the possibility that it may be important after all.
Indeed, Tara’s safety is more important than Don Quixote. He is a loon, but we’ve mostly been able to keep him out of trouble so far, while Tara’s life may be in danger, and we don’t have much time for preemptive measures. In fact, Quixote can help you protect her, if you don’t mind having him around. His twitter account is https://twitter.com/TheTrueQuixote , if you want to know more about him.
One more thing, Mr. Holmes. You don’t have to worry about Cinderella anymore. Mr. Administrator – our benefactor, who, we assume, is yours too – has confirmed that his agent was able to send her back into her realm. She is out of danger, and is probably happy (ever after).
You are dong extremely well in the hour of need, Mr. Holmes. If I might say, it may be wise not to articulate your feelings about Tara in public – people might be a bit surprised. Please stick by Don Quixote – he may be annoying and mad but he is also intelligent, chivalrous and affectionate. Godspeed in your quest – you must protect Tara. We have received word she is in danger.
Sincerely,
H
Can I ask what this ‘fanmail’ was?
Dear Mr. Holmes,
We have very strong reason to believe that you and Mr. Quixote (a.k.a. Lance Chevalier) are being lured into a trap. We suspect that the persons who are hacking Miss Coulson’s blog are none other than, once again, Professor Moriarty and his nefarious associates.
TAKE EVERY PRECAUTION YOU DEEM NECESSARY. Mr. Quixote is already rushing, probably blindly, into this trap. If you can keep him intact and get out of there in one piece yourself, we will be forever in your debt.
Godspeed,
Qara-Xuan
Greetings, Holmes.
I bring good and bad news. First, the good news. Our benefactor has completed research into the possible methods of sending you and the others home, and I am pleased to say it was a success. This means that shortly we will be able to return you to your world. However, some preparations must be made first, and I’m sure you would rather finish your affairs here before you leave, no?
Second, the bad news. Tara’s blog has once more been invaded, as I believe you have noticed. Some among our number suspect a trap, as we find it strange that two of our POIs should be caught up in these circumstances surrounding a relatively normal human. The use of the name “Quixote” in the most recent post has raised our alert. Therefore, I have determined to allow Quixote to continue onwards to the “rescue”, seeing as it probably isn’t possible to stop him, while you remain in reserve, observe the following events and try and determine the culprits behind then, while preparing to aid Quixote and Tara in the event of a crisis. Is this plan acceptable to you?

Holmes, quick update as Halloween approaches.
Don is heading to meet up with Tara to attempt to protect her, but we believe Morgana Lefey is present. Be warned! Her threat level is through the roof! On Moriarty’s level. We are really gonna need you as backup now!
